One groovy aspect of being the Beer Director for our restaurant group is getting to plan special events. For example, we have two separate promotions happening at Hopjacks this summer; one with a nice prize at the end and one that supports a great cause.
Hopjacks is the exclusive Pensacola home to the Samuel Adams “Summer With Sam” promotion. Stop in to Hopjacks’ downtown location and take pictures of you, your friends and family enjoying any Sam Adams product. Then simply upload them to our twitter account and we’ll transfer them to our media outlets so our followers may “vote” on their favorites; the more creative the better. Democracy in action! The most likes by July 31 wins a prize package of a Weber grill, Coleman cooler, case of Sam Adams beer and a Bocce ball set plus shirts, hats and bottle openers. Special prices on the Summer Ale and Boston Lager drafts, by the way.
We’re also participating with Sea Dog Brewery in a campaign to benefit animal rescue. The Dog Days of Summer promotion runs from June 1 to July 31 with 10% of every Sea Dog beer sold going to charity. I chose South Bark, a non-profit based out of Loxley, Alabama with local chapters. They help locate homes for animals in shelters.
I’ve also decided to combine man’s two best friends – dogs and beer – into a series of events to be hosted at all 3 Hopjacks locations. The plan is to have some fun, dog-centric activities like a fashion/talent show, a dog wash and a “pug” crawl including Hopjacks downtown, The Tin Cow and The Spotted Dog Boutique & Bakery. Check in with us at our restaurants and social media for further details.
And seeing as how it is summer, it’s hot as heck out there and I’m thirsty for a beer right now. The two breweries we’re teaming up with for these events happen to have their own berry-accented beverages for me to compare.
The Sam Adams Blackberry Witbier gives enough natural berry scents and flavors without destroying the cleanliness of the wheat malt. The juiciness of blackberry here makes for a nice balance to the crisp body of the beer.
Summer is when the blueberries are nice and ripe, so I’m ready for some Sea Dog Blue Paw Wild Blueberry Wheat. Like the previous beer, this one is also wheat-based and possessive of a natural berry flavor. The nose is as if someone set a plate of fresh blueberry muffins out in the room. Flavors are bright without being overbearing or sickly sweet.
Between prizes, causes and beverages, we’ve got plenty that’s good for you this summer at Hopjacks.
