Here we are in the middle of American Craft Beer Week and, even though you might have missed the first two days, we have plenty of beer features for our guests to enjoy. There’s a lot to talk about, so let’s begin.
I was given the opportunity to try out a couple of specialty products co-created by Victory Brewing Co. Punch Drunk is a cocoa and Ghost Pepper hot sauce utilizing nothing but organic ingredients and Victory Storm King Stout. Very flavorful but not out of control heat-wise. Then there’s Pint Pickles, easily one of the best pickles I’ve ever tried! Tangy and packing a crunchy punch by way of Chile de Arbol and Piri Piri peppers while Victory Prima Pils adds a grassy, herbal bite. Gonna make a BBQ sauce out of the Punch Drunk for a “Beer-B-Q” sandwich with pulled pork, my mom’s recipe for coleslaw and those awesome pickles. Serve it up with some of our Sweet Potato Fries and offer it all week.
Tonight we’re hosting a Brewery Bingo featuring Shipyard and Sea Dog Brewing. Guests enjoying drinks from those two breweries get bingo cards with beer gear for prizes. As our 9-Mile Road Hopjacks has karaoke that night we’re awarding a prize package to the best performance. Friday night our friends from New Belgium will be demonstrating how Hopjacks’ food pairs with their beer. Free samples, y’all! Saturday we’re featuring Victory’s beer along with that sandwich and Sunday we’ll rest up and let our infamous half-off all draft beer special do the work for us. All nights except Sunday are also Pint Nights. Get a complimentary brewery glass with your first purchase from the featured company and $1.00 off all featured re-fills for the rest of your visit.
Even though their events have already happened, I still have to send some love to Pensacola Bay Brewery who helped us kick off ACBW with exclusive t-shirts and Lagunitas Brewing who hooked us up with really great beer and cool gear. Loving those wayfarer sunglasses, guys!
But I left out Thursday night’s event. Aside from the specialty stuff Victory and Lewis Bear Distributing hooked us up with, one of the best things we get to play with this week are a couple of rarities straight out of the vault at Sweetwater Brewing. Hopjacks Downtown is hooking up a keg of 2012 Festive Ale while I’m sending an ultra-rare item to our 9-Mile Road location.
OTIS is an oatmeal stout that has never been released outside of their brewery! This dark beauty sports a mocha-color cap over a creamy mahogany body. Scents are pretty much what one would expect; coffee, roasted grain and homemade whipped cream. The oatmeal provides a natural sweetness that balances off the espresso bitterness alongside notes of caramel, chocolate and smoke. Incredibly silky smooth and very drinkable.
Happy ACBW, everyone!
